A Curriculum Outline gives the themes and topics within each subject and year group and guidance from the QCA is used to help shape appropriate and stimulating topics over the year. The Primary National Strategy from the UK is also used to plan, teach and assess literacy and mathematics from Foundation 2 through to Year Six.

Literacy involves reading, writing, phonics, spelling and grammar, as well as speaking and listening skills. A variety of approaches in teaching these skills are used at ISM, through daily, dedicated literacy lessons alongside exploiting opportunities whilst learning in other subjects in the curriculum. At ISM Numeracy is concerned with developing mathematical thinking and number skills using a variety of approaches. There is an emphasis on mental maths and problem solving in practical contexts.
